By Car
By far the majority of you will
arrive by car. The United Kingdom has an extensive
Motorway Network. The M4 connects London with Wales and
the West Country joining the M5 from Birmingham (157 miles) , The Midlands and the
North of England and Scotland (M74,M6,M5, 450 miles) taking you as far as Exeter
where the A38 Dual Carriageway takes you to Plymouth and on to Cornwall
and the A30 Dual
Carriageway takes you the rest of the way to Cornwall.
The North Devon Link Road will take you from the M5 just outside
Tiverton all the way to Barnstaple and Bideford in North Devon.
Just beyond Exeter you branch off the A38 to take the A380 to Torquay and South Devon.
.From London to Exeter is some 170 miles
allow 4 hours by car. From Birmingham to Plymouth on
the County Border with Cornwall is some 210 miles. Allow 4 hours by car.

Car Hire in Devon
Want a car when you arrive in Devon? National Rental Companies such as
Avis Budget Europcar and Hertz have outlets in the City's of Exeter Plymouth and Torquay.
There are also locally owned rental outlets in Barnstaple, Newton Abbot and Tegnmouth.
Many will deliver the vehicle to your door.
Driving in Devon
When travelling in Devon many of the Lanes are narrow and have high hedges, often there may be a cow or agricultural vehicle around the bend, so drive with care ,and have a great holiday. Narrow quiet roads are part of the unspoilt charm of Beautiful Devon. Much of Dartmoor has a 40mph speed limit, imposed both for your safety and that of animals grazing alongside the unfenced roads.
Nowhere is more than an hour and a half drive, for example Exeter to Plymouth is only 45 miles, whilst Exeter to Barnstaple in North Devon is 41 miles
By Train
Great Western Trains Fast Intercity Express's arrive in Plymouth from London (Paddington) and Birmingham (New Street) many times throughout the day. These stop at Exeter (St Davids) ,and Newton Abbot. Trains also run from London (Waterloo) to Exeter (Central). The fastest service takes just over two hours from Paddington to Exeter (St Davids). There are even daily through trains from Scotland. There are frequent connecting trains from London Heathrow HRW Airport, though to reach Exeter you will usually have to change at Reading. www.nationalrail.co.uk web-site for train times.
South West Trains run services from Exeter St Davids to Paignton in South Devon and Wales and the West run services also from Exeter St Davids to Barnstaple in North Devon
By Coach
National Express run daily services from Plymouth, Torquay, and Exeter to London. Victoria for the Tube, Heathrow and Gatwick Airport, the Channel Tunnel and Europe. Allow ? hours from Plymouth to London Victoria. See National Express's web-site for times and fares.
Once you get to Devon there are extensive local coach services to all the outlying towns. The County Council's website contains details of all Bus Services and their frequencies including route maps.
By Air
There are connecting services from Exeter Airport to London Gatwick LGW from Plymouth PLH to Birmingham and Glasgow Scotland.
